The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge here today sentenced a Nayagaon resident, Amol Chauhan, to 12 years in jail for raping a 7-year-old girl.

Judge Dr Harpreet Kaur also imposed a fine of Rs 12,000 on the convict. According to the order, Chauhan was sentenced to five years in jail and told to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 under Section 365 of the IPC and 12 years in jail and Rs 10,000 fine under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.

The case dates back to March 15, 2018 when the Nayagaon police registered a case against the accused under Section 365 and 376 of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act on the complaint of the victim’s father.

The victim’s father, in his complaint to the police, had stated that his seven-year-old daughter was playing in the street on March 14, 2018 when Amol Chauhan gave Rs 20 to his daughter to bring spring roll. He stated that Chauhan was a habitual drinker. When his daughter went to deliver the spring roll, the accused held her captive in a room and raped her there.

He said when he enquired about the whereabouts of his daughter from other children playing in the street, they told him that Chauhan had called his daughter to his home. When he went to Chauhan’s house, the accused, without opening the door, said his daughter was not there.

The victim’s father called the police, which forcibly opened the door of the house. The accused had kept his daughter in a large box.

During the victim’s medical examination, rape was confirmed after which the police registered the case and arrested the accused.
