Chandigarh, July 16

The mysterious death of an air hostess in Delhi, who was a resident of Sector 36, Chandigarh, has left her neighborhood shocked.

Anissia Batra, a 39-year-old air hostess, died after falling from the fourth floor of her house in South Delhi’s Panchsheel Park on July 13. The victim’s family alleged that her husband Mayank Singhvi and in-laws were harassing her for dowry. A case of dowry death was registered by the Delhi Police.

The victim’s parents, who reside in Chandigarh, left for Delhi on Friday when they got to know about her death, said a person close to the family.

A neighbour known to the victim’s father, Maj Gen RS Batra (retd), said General Batra moved into the  Sector 36 house around 2003-04. “Their daughter moved out of the city long back to pursue her career. She used to visit Chandigarh,” the neighbour said on condition of anonymity. Many neighbours are in shock following the news of Anissia’s death. “We came to know about the incident through news, which left us shocked,” said another neighbour.

Though many people residing in the locality knew the victim’s father, they had never met Anissia. All they knew was that she was an air hostess with an international airlines.

The victim had been married for over two years and used to live with her husband in Hauz Khas.
