CHANDIGARH: Several issues related with the city’s development will be raised in the first meeting of the new Administrator’s Advisory Council to be held tomorrow.

Several issues related with the city’s development will be raised in the first meeting of the new Administrator’s Advisory Council to be held tomorrow.

The meeting will be chaired by UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore. Issues such as making the area around Sukhna Lake vehicle-free, trade and industries and the law and order condition of the city will be taken up in the meeting.

The Department of Urban Planning will give a presentation regarding the proposed parking policy. The issues that are likely to be raised include transfer of primary schools and dispensaries from the Municipal Corporation to the Chandigarh Administration. While the Administration wanted to take over the departments, the Municipal Corporation refused the transfer. The problem of stray dogs is also likely to be discussed in the meeting. The council is meeting for the first time after it was reconstituted last month.

An official of the Administration said the proposed parking policy had many provisions that required suggestions from the members. The Administration also proposed to make area in front of the Sukhna Lake vehicle-free. The decision regarding the formation of different committees will also be taken up in the meeting. Many new members have been added to the council this time, which include Abhinav Bindra also. The members will also raise issues which they think are right for the development of the city.

Babla appointed to Advisory Council 

Chandigarh: The UT Administration has appointed Devinder Singh Babla, Congress councillor and leader of the opposition in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, as member of the Administrator’s Advisory Council. Babla is currently the general secretary of the Chandigarh Congress and also an elected councillor from ward number 18. Babla was also a former member of the Home Minister’s Advisory Council headed by the Union Home Minister. He also held the post of the chairman of the Chandigarh Market Committee. The administration reconstituted the council last month. The mandate of the council is to give advice and suggestions to the administration on the issues related with the city’s development. The council is holding its meeting on Friday. TNS
