Tempers ran high when at the local Civil Hospital when two newborns got swapped allegedly due to the negligence of the hospital staff.

A resident of Manpur village, Gurmeet Singh, said the hospital staff told him that his wife Sandeep Kaur gave birth to a baby girl child on Thursday evening. He already had two daughters.

However, when the paper formalities for the birth certificate were being completed, the staff informed him that it was a male child. The child was handed over to them.

On the other hand, Goldy Rani, wife of Parminder Singh of Rurki  Heeran village, was informed that a boy was born to her. However, later a girl was handed over to them.

The goof-up by the hospital staff lead to tension. The police had to be called as relatives of both families and the hospital staff started arguing with  each other.

ASI Ashwani Kumar of the Kharar City police reached the spot and decided that both kids would remain in hospital. He said they would act on a written complaint and follow the procedure for settling the matter.

The SMO, Dr Surinder Singh, said he would look into the matter. He said according to the staff, the babies had been handed over to their respective parents. However, a DNA test would be conducted.
