“Teams, including from the crime branch, the operation cell and the Sector 3 police station, have been constituted to carry out the investigation.

The police said the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the adjoining areas was being scrutinised to get the registration number of the car in which the assailants had fled.

A source said it could be the handiwork of gangsters, who wanted to extort money. The police are also investigating whether gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, whose name has cropped up in the investigation of firing at a hotelier’s house in Sector 33, has a role in this incident.

Two assailants had opened indiscriminate fire at workers of the liquor store. The police said five bullets were fired. The suspects had arrived in a white Honda Amaze car, which was parked on the main road.
