The 1983 Cricket World Cup winning captain, Kapil Dev, today said he had nothing do to with the move of the Union Territory Cricket Association (UTCA), Chandigarh, to name the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium after him.

Kapil, who was in the city to inaugurate an institute, interacted with young students and teachers.

Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, Kapil said he had nothing to do with the naming of the stadium and he had not approached anyone in this regard.

In December last year, during a visit of BCCI secretary Jay Shah to the city, the UTCA had reportedly approached the government to spruce up the stadium as they wanted to name it after Dev. However, no development has been made on this front as the complex belongs to the UT Administration. Kapil, who is also a member of the Union Territory Cricket Association, had started his career at the Sector 16 stadium and had trained under DP Azad. — TNS
