People sat glued to their seats and moved their heads along with the beats as Sufi singers – Jyoti Nooran and Sultana Nooran –performed at the Harpal Tiwana Centre for Performing Arts here on Sunday . 

The siblings famous as Noora sisters sang ‘qwalis’ of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, compositions, including ‘Dama Dam Mast Qalandar’ written in the honour of Shahbaz Qalandar of Sehwan Sharif and other numbers. 

The performance was given during ‘Sanman samaroh’ organised by New Mehak Cultural Forum on its 19th foundation day here on Sunday.

Dr Naresh Raj of the New Mehak Cultural Forum said the event was dedicated to Pran Sabharwal of National Theatre Arts Society and Prof Subhash Sharma for their contribution to art and culture. Shivdular Singh Dhillon, Deputy Commissioner, Fatehgarh Sahib,  HS Sohi, Principal Commissioner, Income Tax, and PS Gill Commissioner Excise (retd) also attend the event.

The songs ‘Ni main jana jogi de naal’ and ‘Alif allah chambey di booti’ made the audience sway along with the music. During their performance, Nooran sisters also focused on singing quality sufi songs. “Singing sufi songs takes time and energy, but stays forever with the singer and the audience,” they said.

The sisters also sang compositions, including ‘Jugni’ and ‘Mere peer di jugni’ much to the enjoyment of the audience. Event organiser Dr Naresh Raj said, “Our basic aim is to promote art and culture. We don’t take any help from the government.” “Shoemakers, who are work on roads, must get some room to carry on their business,” he added. The show ended with a prolonged standing ovation from the audience for the Nooran sisters.
