In a move aimed at combating cervical cancer, the district health department has started HPV vaccination at various government health facilities across the district.
Sharing the details, Civil Surgeon Dr Sangeeta Jain and District Immunisation Officer Dr Girish Dogra said the vaccine was being administered to girls aged 14 to 15. They said it was a voluntary, single-dose vaccine to be administered after consent at government health facilities. The vaccine was formally launched by the government a few days ago.
The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine is available at a high cost in private hospitals while it will be free in government hospitals. The HPV campaign will last for 90 days and the beneficiary must carry their Aadhaar card with them.
The Civil Surgeon appealed to district residents to get their daughters vaccinated against HPV to protect them from this deadly disease.
