As many as 18 cases of dengue, 20 of malaria and two of chikungunya have been reported from the city. A fresh case of malaria was reported on Friday.
With onset of the dengue season, the malaria wing of the Health Department is involved in field activities for the prevention and control of dengue. Free dengue testing facility is available at the Department of Virology, PGIMER, Department of Microbiology GMCH-32, GMSH-16 and District Priority Lab (IDSP) at the Civil Hospital, Mani Majra.
Department officials said they were doing fogging in residential areas, schools and institution. “The fogging in government and private schools is done in the evening. Fogging has been done in over 4,000 houses and commercial places,” they claimed. Mega phone announcements are being made by health workers to sensitise the general public about prevention of malaria and dengue.
How to prevent malaria & dengue
- Do not allow water to stagnate in and around your houses.
- Remove water from coolers and other small containers at least once in a week.
- Always keep overhead tanks properly covered.
- Do not throw discarded containers, tyres, pitchers and pots on the roof top.
- Do not wear clothes that expose arms and legs.
- Use mosquito nets or repellents while sleeping.
- Don’t use aspirin for fever and body ache in dengue season.
