Obliged scribe by giving his wife job, claims firm owner

Chandigarh, March 6

The owner of Ind-Swift Limited, a pharmaceutical company, from where journalist Sanjeev Mahajan’s wife was drawing a salary, during his questioning by the police, claimed that he had obliged Mahajan. However, he didn’t reveal the reason for the same.

The company owner, NR Munjal, was grilled at the Sector 31 police station last night, and again today.

A police official said Munjal was not co-operating with the police following which he was questioned again.

“Munjal has claimed that he had obliged Mahajan. However, he didn’t reveal why he obliged Mahajan by giving his wife a job in the company,” said a police official.

Munjal’s company was earlier accused of evading tax. The company had a liability of about Rs5 crore but it had paid only Rs5,000 as VAT. The matter was initially probed by the Vigilance Department and later transferred to the crime branch. In December 2018, Munjal was arrested by the crime branch.

The police suspect that Mahajan did some favour to Munjal and in return, the former’s wife started getting salary from the firm. — TNS
