Ropar: The district police claimed to have seized 5 kg of opium from a car here today. The driver of the car identified as Parminder Singh, alias Pinda, a local resident, was also arrested.



Ropar: The district police claimed to have seized 5 kg of opium from a car here today. The driver of the car identified as Parminder Singh, alias Pinda, a local resident, was also arrested. SSP Swapan Sharma said Pinda was coming from the Kurali side in a car when a police party stopped him. On search of his car 5 kg of opium was recovered, he added. Pinda was arrested after registration of a case under the NDPS Act against him, said the SSP. TNS

Youth succumbs to injuries

Lalru: Five days after under going treatment, a 21-year-old youth succumbed to his injuries at the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, today. The deceased Bhupinder Singh was hit by a car following which he sustained injuries and admitted to the GMCH. The police have registered a case on the statement of victim’s friend Amandeep Singh against an unidentified car driver. The deceased was going to his PSPCL office when a car hit his bike from the rear on November 19.  OC

Two tippers, JCB seized

Panchkula: The Pinjore police seized two tippers during a raid on illegal miners at Syamantu river, near Billa Morh, on Thursday evening. The police said a JCB machine and two tippers extracting sand and gravel were found during a raid at the Syamantu river.  The drivers of the JCB machine and the two tippers (bearing registration numbers HR-68B 6571 and PB 11 (T) ZH 5341) managed to escape from the site, said the police. The police have registered a case against unidentified drivers. In another mining case, the police have arrested Krishan Kumar, a resident of Ratewali village, for attacking Hukam Singh of the same village for restricting the former from extracting gravel from the river bed with the JCB machine. When victim Hukum Singh and his son Deepa tried to stop the suspect Krishan Kumar from illegal mining, the accused attacked the former with sharp-edged weapon. The suspect fled when villagers reached the site and took seriously injured Hukam Singh to the General Hospital, Sector 6.  TNS

Mobile snatched from boy 

Chandigarh: Two Activa-borne youths snatched a mobile phone from a Class XII student on Friday afternoon. The incident took place near the Sector 37/41 light point. According to the police, the 17-year-old victim, Rahul Nagpal, a resident of Sector 41, was going towards Sector 38 when the incident took place around 3.20 pm. Sources said the suspects were riding a white Activa. The person riding pillion was wearing a black T-shirt. CCTV footage of the area is being scrutinised to identify the suspects. TNS  

Three held under NDPS Act 

Chandigarh: Three persons have been arrested by the Chandigarh Police under NDPS Act for possessing banned vials and charas. According to the police, Amit, alias Annad, a resident of Phase II, Ram Darbar, was arrested from Sector 25 with 24 banned injections. In another incident, the crime branch arrested Ranjit Kumar, a resident of Mani Majra, with 200 gm of  charas. He was arrested on the road from Kishangarh to Saketri. The crime branch sleuths also nabbed Darshan Ram, a resident of Zirakpur, with 1 kg of charas. The accused was arrested from near a temple in Phase II, Industrial Area. TNS 

Minor arrested with stolen bike 

Chandigarh: A juvenile was apprehended while riding a stolen motorcycle with a fake registration number. According to the police, a 15-year-old boy was nabbed from near a PGI gate while riding the motorcycle, which was stolen from Dhanas. He had also affixed a fake number on the motorcycle. He has sent to the Juvenile Home in Sector 25. TNS   

Youth held for minor’s rape 

Chandigarh: A 19-year-old youth has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police for allegedly raping a minor girl. According to the police, the 16-year-old victim has alleged that the youth raped her. The police were informed about the incident, who recorded the victim’s statement and arrested the youth. A case of rape and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against the youth at the Maloya police station. TNS

Man robbed of bike, mobile 

Dera Bassi: Two unknown persons robbed a man of his Splendor motorcycle, purse and a mobile phone near Bhushan Factory here on Thursday night. The victim, Sanju, a resident of Haripur Kuran village, Dera Bassi, lodged a complaint with the police in this connection. He said he was a driver and after his shift, he was heading back towards his village on his motorcycle. When he reached near Bhushan Factory situated on the Chandigarh-Ambala stretch near Dera Bassi, two people asked him to stop the bike on the pretext of seeking a lift. The duo then forcibly took his bike, purse and a mobile phone and escaped from the spot. The police have registered a case under Sections 382 and 34 of the IPC at the Dera Bassi police station. oc

Batteries stolen

Kharar: The Mullanpur Garibdass police registered a case on Friday under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC against unidentified suspect on the charge of stealing 18 batteries from the shop of Raghvir Singh, a resident of Saini Majra. The complainant told the police that he was running a shop in Sainimajra village. —TNS
