As many as 1,41,447 children were administered polio drops during the three-day vaccination drive in the district. The target was to administer polio drops to 1,45,343 children in the age group of 0-5 years. The health authorities could achieve only 97 per cent of their set target this time.
According to Kuldeep Singh, acting chief medical officer of the district, some left-out areas would be covered within another two days.
Dr Kuldeep Singh said the Health Department made sure that every child below five years be given polio drops in the district. He said a total of 1,208 teams, including 1,067 house-to-house teams, were constituted across the district. As part of the vaccination campaign, health workers visited houses, railway stations, bus stands, brick-kilns, slums, etc., each day.
“A total of 2,420 vaccinators were pressed into service. The teams included ANMs, ASHA workers, Aanganwari workers and students from nursing colleges. To ensure that all children were immunised, a total of 122 supervisors carried out sudden checks at various places,” said Dr Kuldeep Singh.
