Over 100 two-wheeler riders given free helmets in Panchkula
Special road safety drive
To promote road safety, the Panchkula city traffic police, in collaboration with the SBI General Insurance, organised a special awareness drive at the busy Geeta Chowk on Wednesday. During the campaign, two-wheeler riders were sensitised about the importance of wearing helmets and complying with the traffic rules.
As part of the initiative, more than 100 riders driving without helmets were provided free helmets with the support of the SBI General Insurance. The drive aimed to prevent serious head injuries in road accidents and encourage safer commuting habits.
Senior officials from the SBI General Insurance, including Priyanka Sampat Kumar, ML Das, Supreet Tutija, Jatin Sharma and Amit Bangali, who were present on the occasion, assured continued support for the road safety programmes.
City traffic police SHO Varinder Kumar urged the public to wear helmets not just to avoid fines, but to protect their lives. DCP (Traffic) Manpreet Singh Sudan said most road accident deaths occur due to head injuries, stressing that helmets were both legally mandatory and lifesaving. The initiative was well received, with many residents pledging to follow the traffic rules.
