Panchkula MC elections: 9 candidates in fray for Mayor's seat, 123 for 20 wards
BJP faces dissidence as at least two candidates file nominations as independents
As many as five mayoral candidates, including AAP and INLD candidates, filed their nomination papers on the last day of nomination, taking the overall count to nine.
On the last day of filing nominations, 65 papers were received, taking the count to 123 in the fray for 20 wards.
Indian National Lok Dal's mayoral candidate Manoj Agarwal's nomination papers were filed in the presence of national president Abhay Chautala at the SDM office.
AAP's mayoral candidate Rajesh Kumar and 19 candidates filed their papers today.
Agarwal thanked the party leadership and said that the INLD was receiving full support from the public. He said that after winning the elections, priority would be given to city development, cleanliness system, basic amenities and resolving public grievances.
Chautala targeted both the Congress and the BJP and said that in the Rajya Sabha elections, the Congress had helped BJP win, which exposed the collusion between the two parties before the public.
Meanwhile, the BJP is facing dissidence as at least two candidates have filed their nominations as independents after BJP allotted tickets to others.
Three-time councillor from Sector-7 jumped into the fray as an Independent after the BJP gave ticket to a new candidate. Gurmail Kaur from Sector 12-A who recently quit the Congress to join the BJP was denied a ticket at the last moment, prompting her to turn rebel.
