Panchkula residents seek urgent action as monkey menace escalates
the problem has intensified in recent months, with Sectors 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 among the worst affected
Growing incidents involving monkeys across several sectors of Panchkula have prompted residents’ group Solution Box to seek urgent intervention from the Municipal Corporation and the Wildlife Department.
According to the group, the problem has intensified in recent months, with Sectors 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 among the worst affected.
Residents allege that monkeys attacked children and elderly people in parks and entered homes, often damaging property such as water pipes, internet cables and air-conditioning units.
In a formal representation addressed to the Panchkula Municipal Corporation Commissioner, the group called for long-term, city-wide measures rather than temporary drives. The demands include scientific sterilisation to control the monkey population, strategic relocation of aggressive troops to the forested areas, and the creation of a Rapid Task Force with dedicated personnel, including trained “Vanar Mitras”, in high-conflict zones.
Residents also urged the authorities to issue challans against those found feeding monkeys near the residential areas, arguing that the practice contributes to aggressive behaviour.
Solution Box appealed to residents to document incidents and share details with the group to strengthen its petition.
