Chandigarh, February 10

Panic gripped Dadu Majra Colony after some youths, who had arrived in a Mahindra Bolero and two other cars, escaped after opening fire this evening. They left the Bolero at the spot, which was impounded by the police. 

Sources said the miscreants arrived outside a liquor vend at the colony entry gate. They thrashed two persons in full public view. Soon, a large number of people gathered at the spot following which the miscreants opened fire and escaped from the spot. 

The police were informed about the incident following which teams, including cops from the crime branch and the operation cell, visited the spot. 

UT SSP Nilambari Jagdale also reached the spot soon after the incident. Several police teams were constituted to look for the miscreants. 

Local residents were terrified after the incident. The two youths, who were assaulted by the miscreants, were taken by the police to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16. The injured were identified as Ravi Kumar and Roopi.

The sources said five rounds were fired by the miscreants, but fortunately, no one received bullet injuries.

The miscreants escaped towards Sector 38 (West). The police cordoned off the area and carried out a search there. The police scrutinised  the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area. “Three miscreants are seen opening fire,” said a police official.

Meanwhile, the Bolero, bearing a Punjab number, has been impounded by the police.  The police recorded the statements of eyewitnesses. A team of the CFSL lifted fingerprints from the Bolero. An investigation has been initiated.
