Chandigarh, July 29

The Department of Chemistry, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, organised the seventh Best Research Award Ceremony on the behalf of the Prem Lata and Prof DVS Jain Research Foundation today.

The foundation came into existence in 2015 with Rs 50 lakh endowment fund donated by Prof Jain’s family. The main objective of this foundation is to promote and nurture scientific research in the university. The foundation has initiated Best Researcher Award, Best Publication Award, Bright-Begin Research Grant, conceptual consolidation in innovative areas lecture series, fellowships for research scholars and book fund.

Prof Harsh Nayyar, director, Research amp; Development Cell, Panjab University, presided over the occasion. In his presidential address, Prof Nayyar congratulated the awardees and exhorted other faculty members and young researchers to carry out meaningful research, not only for wider scientific reach, but also for societal impact.

Prof Sonal Sighal and Dr Savita Chaudhary, both from the Department of Chemistry, PU, were awarded the Prof DVS Jain Research Award for 2022 and 2021, respectively, which included a citation and award amount of Rs 30,000. Chaudhary and Dr Gurpreet Kaur, Department of Chemistry, PU, were awarded the Prem Lata Jain Research Award (2022 and 2021), which included a citation and award amount of Rs 15,000.

The Best Publication award for 2022 and 2021 was presented to Prof Sonal Singhal (chemistry), Dr Anil Kumar (UIET), Dr Ravi Pratap (biophysics), Prof Kashmir Singh (biotechnology), Prof GR Chaudhary (chemistry), Dr Anupama Sharma (UICET), Dr SK Kansal (UICET), Dr Santosh Upadhayay (botany), Dr Savita Chaudhary (chemistry) and Dr Natarajan (chemistry). The best publication awards included a citation and award amount of Rs 5,000 for each awardee. The certificates of appreciation for publishing high impact papers in 2021 and 2022 were given to 29 faculty members.
