Chandigarh, July 4

The Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) today resolved that the amendments to regulation passed by the Senate in 2011, pending at the level of MHRD/MoE, will be followed up for an early resolution, during their annual general body meeting.

The House also resolved that the Panjab University Vice-Chancellor would be requested look into the inordinate delay in furnishing the SSR for the NAAC. It also discussed Clause 6.3 of UGC Regulations, 2018. The authorities would be asked to form a committee with PUTA representation in order to resolve this long-standing issue. The members also discussed pendency of applications of around 100 teachers, who are waiting for their due promotions under CAS.

It was also resolved to request the Vice Chancellor to take suitable steps to conduct the screening/interview of all such pending cases at the earliest. For the safeguard of faculty members, it was decided that the authorities must not discourage the teachers by denying them duty leave to attend international conferences or any other academic assignments outside the university. It was decided to pursue the matter related to promotions of faulty members. Several other resolutions were also passed.

Meanwhile, one of the faculty members misbehaved with a woman journalist and grabbed her phone. Tha association condemned the incident. “Members present took a serious exception to such an unbecoming behaviour of Dr Batra and felt deeply perturbed by such an obnoxious act towards a professional,” stated PUTA’s statement.
