Paras Health Panchkula doctors remove advanced kidney tumour
Complex procedure involved right radical nephrectomy and complete removal of tumour thrombus from the IVC
Paras Health Panchkula successfully treated a 70-year-old woman diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer that had extended into the Inferior Vena Cava (IVC), one of the body’s largest veins.
The patient had been experiencing weakness, loss of appetite and abdominal discomfort. Further investigations revealed a large tumour in the right kidney.
The procedure was led by Dr Dushiant Sharma, Associate Director, Urology, Uro-Oncology & Robotic Surgery, along with Dr Karan Midha, Senior Consultant, GI, HPB & Liver Transplant Surgery; supported by a multidisciplinary team of anaesthesiologists, critical care specialists and surgical experts.
The team subsequently performed a successful right radical nephrectomy along with complete removal of the tumour thrombus from the IVC, restoring normal blood flow through the vein.
Commenting on the case, Dr Dushiant Sharma said, “Managing kidney cancers that extend into major veins is among the most complex challenges in urologic oncology. In this case, advanced intraoperative imaging and close multidisciplinary collaboration helped us safely remove both the kidney tumour and the venous thrombus while minimising surgical risk.”
