Laying of paver blocks at CHB Enclave in Sector 51 here has come under scanner of the CBI and the Vigilance department.

Some residents of the area had filed complaints before the agencies the work was carried out in violation of a directive of the Chief Architect.

Balvinder Singh, a resident, said they had decided to challenge the decision in the Punjab and Haryana High Court also as it was not in consonance with the Master Plan of the Chandigarh.

SS Bhardwaj, president, Citizen Welfare Association, Sector 51, said paver blocks were banned in the Master Plan and the MC must follow it. He said the Chief Architect had already opposed the laying of paver blocks on the V6 roads.

In a letter, the Chief Architect had asked the MC not to install paver blocks on V6 roads and should leave free space for around six feet along the V5 roads.

Residents of Sector 38 to have opposed the MC move of laying paver blocks.

Objections are being raised at a time when the MC, in its last meeting, approved laying paver blocks in Mayor Rajesh Kalia’s ward at the cost of Rs 4.94 crore. The MC had earlier approved a policy to reduce use of paver blocks in the city but ignored it. Then, it was also decided that no paver blocks are to be provided on the V3 roads (four-laned roads separating sectors).
