Pipe laying work cripples traffic at Tribune Chowk
The closure of the road leading towards Zirakpur from the Tribune Chowk amid ongoing work to lay water pipeline led to severe traffic congestion in the area, leaving commuters hassled. The heavy rush of vehicles left them stuck in serpentine queues and struggling to navigate through the alternative routes.
The road remained blocked since the morning and despite the deployment of traffic police to manage the congestion, the volume of vehicles was overwhelming.
Travelers heading to Zirakpur were forced to take a detour through Industrial Area Phase-I towards the Poultry Farm Chowk on Dakshin Marg, casuing further delays. Many office-goers found themselves stuck in the gridlock, worsening the peak-hour chaos.
Frustrated drivers reported delays of over an hour, with some choosing longer alternative routes to avoid the jam.
Vishal, a resident of Sector 38, shared his ordeal, stating that his commute to Zirakpur took over an hour. “I was stuck at the Tribune Chowk for around 20 minutes, and the traffic jam in Industrial Area caused further delays,” he said.
Commuters also opted for a detour through Ram Darbar to reach the Poultry Farm Chowk, which led to additional traffic congestion in the area. Local shopkeepers and residents in Ram Darbar also faced difficulties as a result. The situation became more dire as ambulances were also seen stuck in the traffic jams.

According to the Municipal Corporation (MC), the pipeline laying work from Water Works, Sector 39, to Chandimandir is underway and the traffic disruptions will continue on February 5.
Both the traffic police and the MC have urged commuters to plan their journeys accordingly and use alternative routes until the work is completed.
Lakshay Chhhabra, another commuter caught in the chaos, mentioned that it took him over 30 minutes in the evening to travel the short distance from Sector 32 roundabout and Tribune Chowk.
The traffic congestion persisted until late in the evening, causing significant distress to commuters and further adding to the city’s travel woes.
