Patiala, July 17
The Patiala police are yet to solve the mystery behind the alleged suicide by a 22-year-old girl student of Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology.
The body of the girl, Sumeet Kaur, who had left her college at 6 am, was pulled out of a canal by divers at 7.30 am on Monday.
The police said the reason behind taking such a step could be her low academic score. She was in final year of Bachelors of Technology (B Tech) and was working on a research project. As per the report, the girl had scored 5 CGPA out of 10 till semester 7. The police said the deceased was not unable to get a job during placements drive.
The police have confiscated laptops and books recovered from her room. Sourav Jindal, DSP City-1, said: “We are investigating with the help of recovered material including her books and laptop. We will get her Call-Detail-Report (CDR) on Wednesday.”
The police said they were trying to contact the girl’s roommate. DSP Jindal said, “The post-mortem has been conducted. According to the reports, she had died of drowning.”
However, girl’s father said she had scored well in Class XII exams — 95 per cent. Harinder Singh, her father, who lost his only child, said: “I had a word with my daughter and she sounded well. We had never pressurerised her to score high in studies.”
