The Zirakpur police have arrested the prime suspect who fired gunshots at the victim in a road rage incident that took place in Zirakpur recently. A 35-year-old man, Anil Kumar, a resident of Daun village in Mohali, was allegedly shot dead in the incident.

The suspect has been identified as Harvinder Singh, alias Happy, a resident of Kotkapura in Punjab.

Divulging details, SP Ravjot Kaur said Happy was the prime suspect in the case as he had allegedly shot the victim with his .32 revolver on the night of October 10. The suspect was arrested at a naka laid near Gurdwara Baoli Sahib in Dhakoli. The police also recovered the weapon used in the crime, along with a .315 rifle and a .12 gun, from his possession.

Ravjot said the suspect would be produced before a court tomorrow for seeking his police remand. A chargesheet would be filed against him in the court. After questioning, his accomplices would also be nabbed soon. On October 10, five men riding a Fortuner on VIP Road here had an argument with the men occupying another Fortuner over the issue of overtaking the vehicle. The men in one of the vehicles asked their friends, Anil and Monty, to come to the spot. Anil, who was attending a birthday party in Zirakpur, arrived on the spot where he had an argument with the other men. Happy allegedly fired three shots at Anil, of which two hit him. The victim was rushed to a hospital where he later died.

A case of murder was registered at the Zirakpur police station.
