Chandigarh, December 14

SD College, Sector 32, postponed the interview process for the post of principal on Friday.

Rubinderjit Singh Brar, Director, Higher Education (DHE), had written to the college authorities to not conduct the interview and send any nominee for the recruitment. However, the PU had differed on the legality of the interview and had sent its nominee.

Sukhdev Singh Randhawa, general secretary of the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU), who had sent a legal notice to the university regarding the postponement of the interview process to the PU, UT Administration and SD College on Thursday, welcomed the decision.

He thanked the administration and the DHE for taking the step. He also urged Vice-Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar to review all reappointments made in complete violation of PU calendar and UGC regulations.

The issue

A UGC letter, dated July 19, addressed to all Central universities; state universities receiving grant-in-aid; deemed to be universities receiving grant-in-aid from UGC and inter-university centres of UGC, called for the postponement all recruitment process. Both Central Government and UGC had approached the apex court against the Allahabad High Court judgment of April 7, 2017, which ordered for giving reservation in faculty recruitment to reserved categories department-wise and not on the existing institution-wise roaster.
