The Property Federation of Chandigarh has condemned the proposal of the Estate Office to facilitate the sale and purchase of private properties, assuming the role of a property dealer or broker.

A meeting of the federation was held over the issue here today. The federation unanimously resolved to oppose this move of the Administration.

“The Estate Office is a statutory administrative body meant to regulate, supervise and ensure compliance with laws, not to enter into commercial activities. Acting as a broker or intermediary in private property transactions is outside its legal mandate and represents a gross misuse of official authority,” the dealers said. Property dealing is a legitimate profession providing employment to thousands of families in Chandigarh and the region, including property dealers, brokers, documentation professionals, marketing staff and ancillary service providers. “This proposal amounts to the government snatching livelihoods by unfairly competing with private professionals using state power and public resources,” they added.
