PU boxers continue to dominate

Saroj of Panjab University beat Sonam of MJP Rohilkhand University to move ahead in the 46kg to 48kg category bouts of the All-India Inter-University Boxing Championship for women at the Panjab University campus. 

Sudesh of OPJS University overpowered Babita Rani of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, while Khushboo Tokas of CCS University, Meerut, edged past Payal of JNV University. Pallavi of Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, beat Vishwakarma Sandhya of DBAMU and Manju Ranji of MUB beat S Kalaivani of MKU.

In the 48kg to 51kg category bouts, Savita beat Rajivinder Kaur of Chandigarh University, Mohali. Ritu of MDU, Rohtak, beat Poonam of Kumaun University, Nanital, and Baigni Likhieha of AUAP beat Savita of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. Neelam Kumari of KUCJ overpowered Simran of University of Delhi and Ravina of CRSU Jind beat Ananya of University of Kota.

In the 51kg to 54kg category bouts, Gargi beat Nissy Laissy of University of Kota. Renu of Kurukshetra University overpowered Preeti of MDU, Rohtak, Jyoti of BPSKS University defeated Mamta of Chandigarh University, Mohali. 

Geeta Thapa of SNDT beat Mamta of MLSUU and Nishi Shukla of BUJ won her bout against Snehal Sanjay of SUKM. In the 54kg to 57kg category bouts, Ritu of Panjab University beat Luxmi of OPJS University. Nisha Jangra of BR Ambedkar University beat Khusum Lata of TMB University and Pooja Mankar of University of Madras overpowered Aarti of University of Delhi. 

Pooja Shinde of SUKM defeated bt Seema Kumari of MUB and Sonu of GJU Hisar overpowered Shikha Chand of HNBU Garhwal.

In the 57kg to 60kg category bouts, local challenger Manju beat Deepika Sonia of BUBLP and Aradhana of BUJ beat Anuja Ramdas of SUKM. Harmandeep Kaur of DBUMG also won her bout against S Varshini of MKU. In the 60kg to 64kg category bouts, Upasna of Panjab University won her first bout against Kumari Aditi of MUB. Parminder Kaur of Guru Nank Dev University beat R Malathi of TDALU and Guddan Rani of SUR beat Shardha of VUU. Pooja of CCS University, Meerut, won her bout against Ruby Singh of SNDTM.

International boxers level allegations against local authorities of favouring host players 

After witnessing protests in the inter-university boxing championship for men, the women’s event too has been marred by allegations of favouritsm by the referees.On Sunday, Many international boxers alleged that the hosts are favouring their players over their opponents from other universities. Boxers also alleged that the hosts are in collusion with a select few university teams who are supporting them.
