PU set to increase discount on books

CHANDIGARH: PU is all set to increase discount on books published by its Publication Bureau where teachers can avail of up to 50% discount and students up to 20%.

PU is all set to increase discount on books published by its Publication Bureau where teachers can avail of up to 50% discount and students up to 20%.

The Syndicate, which is the governing body of the varsity, will take the final decision on it in its meeting scheduled for January 27.

To enhance the income of its Publication Bureau, Honorary Director Prof Sudhir Kumar has recommended for increasing the discount from 35% to 50% on general and scholarly books for fellows, university employees, including retired ones and teachers of affiliated colleges.

Students or individual buyers or non-affiliated colleges can now get 20% discount on textbooks. Earlier they were getting only 8% discount. On general books, the discount has been enhanced to 25% from 15%. Non-registered booksellers can get 20% discount on textbooks against 8%, while registered booksellers or agency holders used to get 15 % discount on textbooks, but now they will get 25%.

In the category of affiliated colleges with PU, principals used to get 10% discount on textbooks of gross value of Rs 500 or more. But now they will get 30% on purchase of textbooks of gross value of Rs 2,000 or more.

The discount for affiliated colleges used to be 25% on general books, but now it has been enhanced to 50%.

For booksellers or agency holders, on orders for gross amount up to Rs 1,000, there will be 30% discount instead of 25%. There used to be 30% discount on purchase of books worth Rs 1,000-Rs 5,000, but now it will be 35 %.

On orders for gross amount between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000, the discount has been enhanced to 40% from 35%.
