Chandigarh, January 5

Hosts Panjab University won the All India Inter-University Fencing Championship for women here today. The hosts scored 39 points to win the top honour. Guru Nanak Dev University (Amritsar) claimed the second position by scoring 19 points and Punjabi University (Patiala) finished third with 14 points.

In the foil team event, Panjab University (Simran, Kusum, Kajal, Chhavi Kohli) won the gold medal. Sardar Patel University (Vidyanagar) finished second, the team represented by Zala Divya, Sameja Khushi and Chaudhary Kajal. Rashtrasant Tukdoji Mahraj Universiy (Nagpur) — represented by Harshada, Himani Ghodmare, Nilofar Pathan, Payal Mohrale — and Guru Nanak Dev University — represented by Payal, jasmine Kaur, Rajni Sharma, Jaspreet Kaur —finished joint third.

The Punjabi University team won the epee gold medal. Jaskeerat Singh, Ena Arora, Lagan Jindal and Greashma MS represented the team. The host team of Yashkeerat Kaur, Chhavi Kohli, Ashiyana Bhardwaj, Mumtaj claimed the silver medal. Guru Nanak Dev University’s Shivam, Navjot Kaur, Jyotika Dutta and Swati, and the team of Kannur University (Kerala) — Princy PS, Aryaanil, Monika Sahu, Anusree —claimed the joint third position.

Guru Nanak Dev University team, represented by Jagmeet Kaur, Jasmine Kaur, Sowmiya and Rishika, won the sabre gold medal. The host team of Shubhjot Dayal, Akashdeep Dhillon, Gunjan and Sanya claimed the second position. Punjabi University (Harpreet Kaur, Husanpreet Kaur, Anitha, Tanu Kumari) and Kannur University (Shonima C, Alka Sunny, Steffy, Anusree) claimed the joint third position.

Kajal, meanwhile, won the individual gold medal in the foil event, followed by Kusum at second spot. Riya and Simran finished joint third. Chhavi claimed the epee individual gold and Yashkirat claimed the silver medal. Ena and Linthoi Haobam finished third. Jagmeet and Shivani claimed the first two positions, respectively, in the sabre event. Alka finished third along with Sanya. —TNS
