Punjab Arts Council announces awards

Will be presented on the occasion of Randhawa Festival

The Punjab Arts Council today announced the awards to be presented on the occasion of Randhawa Festival. For the year 2026, the Punjab Rattan Award will be conferred upon Prof Karamjit Singh (Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar).

A meeting of the executive committee of the Punjab Arts Council, Chandigarh, was held today at the Kala Bhavan, Sector 16, under the chairmanship of Swaranjit Savi.

The Mother Tongue Award will be presented to renowned short story writer Bachint Kaur. Punjab Gaurav Award for theatre will be given to Neena Tiwana, for cinema to Gurvinder Singh, for art to Devinder and literature category to Gurbhajan Gill.

The Mahinder Singh Randhawa Memorial Festival will be held from February 2 to 7. During this period, poetry sessions, art performances and the staging of films and plays will take place. A one-day seminar will also be organised on each awardee, during which papers will be presented on their life and work.

The inauguration will take place on February 2. From February 3 to 6, programmes by various academies will be held, and the awards will be presented on February 7. Chairman Swaranjit Savi and others appealed to all art lovers to participate in the festival. Those present at today’s meeting included Amarjeet Grewal, Yograj, Ashwani Chatley, Nirmal Joura and Manjinder Singh, among others.
