Chandigarh, July 16

Over 100 offices of Punjab and Haryana owe over Rs 60 lakh to the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation as water dues.

Sources said the MC had prepared a list of defaulters (government offices) and would start issuing notices from next week.

Besides, the MC has requested the UT Finance Secretary to issue directions to different departments for paying dues of water bills amounting to Rs 1.47 crore. The MC has also asked the PGI to pay Rs 4 lakh water dues, pending for over 20 years.

Over 50 government offices of the Chandigarh Administration situated in different sectors have failed to deposit the pending water bill amount with the Municipal Corporation for long. An MC official said the bills were not paid despite several reminders having been sent to the officers concerned. The water bill defaulters in the city owe a total of Rs 16 crore to the MC. It will issue notices to defaulters from next week.
