Punjabi University would soon fill vacancies of assistant professors in various departments, almost after three years it stopped the hiring process due to lack of funds.
Reason: Number of assistant and associate professors in some of the departments had dropped down to one.
It is pertinent to mention that the university has not hired associate and assistant professors after 2016.
Dr GS Batra, Dean Academics, said the number of professors at various departments had dropped down. “It is the need of the hour to hire associate and assistant professors on a permanent basis. In some departments, including political science, the professor’s count has dropped to one or two.”
He said the university has also increased 60 seats for BA LLB programme. “Recently, seats for BA LLB were doubled. Naturally, we need lecturers as well.”
Earlier, the university had to do with guest faculty. The varsity issued over 70 notifications for hiring guest faculty for teaching on the campus and at university colleges. Dr Batra said, “I have issued a notification to all the departments to give their requirements in written. We will start the hiring process as per requirement.”
