Randeep Surjewala slams BJP after court rejects ED case in National Herald matter
The Congress national general secretary says Modi government has unleashed ‘politics of revenge and hatred’ through the Enforcement Directorate
Congress national general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala slammed the BJP over the National Herald case.
While addressing a press conference in Chandigarh today, Surjewala said the “politics of revenge and hatred” was scattered like a pack of cards on December 16, 2025, when the Special Judge for MP/MLA cases in New Delhi rejected the ED’s case against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. He called this "a body blow to the politics of blind revenge unleashed through a puppet, the Enforcement Directorate, by the BJP government".
He said the politically motivated case targeting Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi was never about law but driven by a deep-rooted malice to seek revenge and malign the Congress leadership.
Rattled by the Congress party’s relentless exposure of their numerous failures over the last 11 years, the Union Government resorted to weaponise investigative agencies, one after the other, as tools of political intimidation.
He said the Special Court has categorically questioned and admonished the ED for initiating a money laundering investigation in 2021 after arbitrarily reversing its own stand in the National Herald case.
He said in July 2014, the ED itself wrote to the CBI, merely forwarding Dr Subramanian Swamy’s complaint related to the National Herald case. The CBI declined to register an FIR in 2014, citing clear jurisdictional limitations.
In 2015, Dr Swamy filed a private complaint once again. After examination, the CBI reiterated its decision not to register an FIR due to the same jurisdictional constraints.
The court has recorded that based on legal opinion even the ED consciously chose not to initiate any money laundering investigation during 2014-15.
The court noted that, despite the complaint filed by Subramanian Swamy in 2014, neither the CBI nor the ED lodged an FIR against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi from 2014 to 2021, as both the CBI and ED, had clearly recorded in their files that no criminal case was made out.
HS Lucky, president of Chandigarh Congress, was also present during the press conference.
