Malhotra, a student of Chitkara University, carried a base bid of Rs 30 lakh, and was picked on the same amount by the RCB.
A reliable middle-order batsman with a batting average of 32.5, Malhotra also contributed effectively with his bowling, maintaining an economy rate of 5.8 runs per over. He recently represented India U-19 (A) Team and India U-19 in the ongoing season. The 18-year-old had scored 69 and claimed 1/20 against UAE in Dubai and posted 12 against Pakistan in the same event while representing India (A) U-19. The top-order batter, who excelled in both the four-day and 50-over leg of the England tour, was rewarded with the vice-captaincy for the Australia tour held in September.
Dr Madhu Chitkara, Pro Chancellor, Chitkara University, congratulated Malhotra on his selection in the RCB squad. The cricketer is pursuing Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA, first year) from the university.
