In the wake of spurt in Covid cases after the festive season, the recovery rate has gone down to 86.42 per cent from the 93.7 per cent in the Mohali district during the past two weeks.

In the wake of spurt in Covid cases after the festive season, the recovery rate has gone down to 86.42 per cent from the 93.7 per cent in the Mohali district during the past two weeks.

The district has also witnessed 213 per cent increase in active cases in the past two weeks as 1,753 positive cases have been reported till Thursday against 822 cases reported till November 12.

As per the data, 13,179 cases were reported till November 12, which increased to 14,929 till Thursday evening. The number of deaths has also increased from 251 to 273. As of now, 12,903 patients have been cured and discharged from the hospitals in the district.

During a random survey of the city markets and other places in the district, people were seen moving without a mask, exposing themselves to the virus despite the fact that the health authorities have been warning people not to move out without wearing a mask.

According to rough estimates, more than 25 per cent people moved out of their house without wearing a mask during the festive season in the markets.

Nodal Officer Dr Harmandeep Kaur said spike in Covid cases was due to the festive season. People came out in a large number, causing the spread of the virus. The trend would continue till next two weeks. People should take proper care by observing all precautions. They should move out of the house only during an emergency.

Dr Kaur said patients diagnosed with Covid-19 were being admitted to Covid care facilities at Gian Sagar Hospital in Banur and government hospitals in the district. She said about 70 per cent Covid patients had been kept in home quarantine.
