Chandigarh, January 24
The Chandigarh Administration has decided to honour 31 people with commendation certificates on Republic Day for their outstanding performance in their respective fields.
The certificates will be given by UT Adviser Nitin Kumar Yadav during the function.
PGI doc among bravery awardees
Dr Rajeev Chauhan (Associate Professor, Department of Anaesthesia, PGIMER) will be awarded for saving critically ill patients from a blaze that broke out at the medical facility in October last year. Station fire officers Naresh Kumar, Jagtar Singh, and Lal Bahadur will also be awarded for their courage.
Those who will be felicitated include Dr Chahat Bhatia (Senior Resident, GMCH-32), Dr Sarabmeet Singh Lehl (professor, GMCH-32), Nitin Pruthi (physiotherapist, GMSH-16), Amarjeet Singh (peon, AYUSH), Prince Sharma (clerk, UT Secretariat), Prof Arun Kumar Singh (professor and Head of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, PEC) and Lakhvir Singh (professor in Sanskrit, PGGCG, Sector 42), among others.
Honour for 17-year-old Spl Olympics champion
Seventeen-year-old specially abled swimmer Prathna Bhatia, a student of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27, represented India in the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin. She clinched a silver medal in the 4x25m relay event and claimed the fourth position in the 50m freestyle event. She was diagnosed as a slow learner at the age of five. Her mother, Anju Bhatia, tried to teach her in nursery class but faced difficulties. After learning about her daughter’s weakness, Anju left her job and shifted her focus to Prathna’s career. After a struggle of almost 12 years, Prathna represented the nation.
