Rs 6-crore gold haul, biggest at airport

MOHALI: The Mohali police made the biggest gold seizure till date at the international airport here today. A father-son duo landed here with gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 6 crore. They arrived on a flight from Hyderabad and have been identified as Dhanraj Meenawala and Rajesh Meenawala.

The Mohali police made the biggest gold seizure till date at the international airport here today. A father-son duo landed here with gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 6 crore. They arrived on a flight from Hyderabad and have been identified as Dhanraj Meenawala and Rajesh Meenawala.

The airport SHO, Inspector HS Bal, said, “The duo claimed that they were carrying the gold for displaying it in exhibitions.” However, the police had secret information about the gold and nabbed them as soon as they landed at the airport. They started their journey from Mumbai, stopped at Hyderabad and then came to Chandigarh.

Flier caught with Rs60-lakh gold

A 46-year-old Ludhiana resident was caught carrying 1.90 kg of gold worth around Rs 60 lakh at the airport on Wednesday. Kulwinder Singh, a daily wager, was a first-time flier and had returned from Dubai. The gold was hidden in an electric iron for which moulds had been made in the device. Customs officials said he was a carrier and recorded his statement. — TNS
