SAI Imphal knock out Amritsar academy in hockey tournament

The 48th edition of GS Bains Liberals All-India Hockey Tournament commenced at PPS Nabha hockey grounds under pleasant sunny conditions here today.

In the inaugural encounter, SAI Imphal knocked out Maharaja Ranjit Singh Academy Amritsar 5-1. Manipur boys dominated the proceedings from the very start and went 1-0 ahead in the 17th minute with Mithlesh Yadav beating goalkeeper Ataldeep from close range.

SAI boys were awarded a penalty stroke in 30th minute, which was converted by Sachin to put his side 2-0 ahead. Maintaining pressure on Amritsar defence, SAI youths added two quick goals in the 31st and 41st minutes with Sachin and Dung Dung scoring field goals.

Amritsar boys got a consolation goal in the 48th minute from the stick of centre forward Sukhwinder Singh. Shivam Patel completed the comprehensive 5-1 rout of Amritsar academy by converting another penalty stroke in the 56th minute.

In the second match MSK Academy, Jarkhar, trounced HFB NCR Academy, Sonipat 6-0 in another one-sided affair. Jarkhar lads forged 1-0 ahead in the second minute when Sonu Singh dodged past a couple of defenders to sound the board. Two penalty corner goals by Dilveer Singh in the 9th and 30th minutes put Jakhar academy 3-0 ahead.

Sonipat lads lacked speed and skill and conceded more goals in the second half to go down 6-0. The goal scorers were Pawanpreet in 42nd & 46th minute and Hans Raj, who converted a penalty corner into a goal in the 55th minute.
