Sakshi crowned best athlete at Chandigarh college annual sports meet

Sakshi of BA-III was declared the best athlete at the 69th annual athletics meet of Post Graduate Government College for Girls (GCG), Sector 11, Chandigarh, held on the college grounds on Tuesday.

The event was inaugurated by principal Prof Anita Kaushal, who unfurled the college flag and took the salute from marching contingents representing various streams.

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Radhika Singh, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, an alumna of the college.

Congratulating the winners, she appreciated the efforts of students and faculty and highlighted the role of sports in building discipline and character. She encouraged students to excel in their chosen fields and bring laurels to the institution. Sakshi dominated the track events, securing first position in the 200m and 400m races and finishing among the top three in other events, earning her the best athlete title.

Akanksha, Gargi and Amanpreet Kaur were among other standout performers across sprint, middle-distance and field events.

In the relay event, the team comprising Amanpreet, Drishti, Gargi and Divyanshi clinched first place in the 4x100m race. The BCom stream won the best marching contingent award, followed by BCA. Vinnati of BCA-III was adjudged the all-round best player of the year.

The meet concluded with a prize distribution ceremony celebrating the achievements of the young athletes.
