Sanitation workers stage protest

CHANDIGARH: A large number of sanitation workers of Lions Company protested in support of their demands at the MC office today.

A large number of sanitation workers of Lions Company protested in support of their demands at the MC office today.

The Safai Karamchari Union, the Door to Door Union, the UT SS Federation, the SC Morcha- INTUC and All Contractual Karamchari Sangh supported the protest.

Rishi Dyal, president, Health Department Worker Union, said they were struggling for the past 10 days, but nobody was paying heed to their demands. Gurcharan Singh from the Health Department said sanitation workers were being exploited even though their demands are genuine.

Bipin Sher Singh, Chairman, All Contractual Karamchari Sangh, Chandigarh, and President Ashok Kumar said the sangh had always raised voice against the exploitation of contractual and outsourcing workers and would support the cause.

Later, the protesting workers ended the protest after Mayor Rajesh Kalia promised to fulfil their demands. The demands included release of monthly salary on 7th of every month and release of arrears of revised salary.
