The audience at the inaugural function of the National Crafts Mela was treated to a rare, but serene spiritual and soulful music by the Bhopal-based music ensemble Dhruvaa -- The Sanskrit band here on Friday.

The band opened with the recitation of 'Hare Rama, Hare Krishna'. The lead singer and composer, Sanjay Dwivedi, recited hymns 'Asto maa shad gamya, tamso ma jyotirmya' from Rig Veda which set the mystical mood. The hymns were weaved in 'tarana' format, which augmented its spirit and the pace as artistes presented 'Om namah shivaya'. They presented an invocatory 'Achutam keshvam' in laudation of Lord Krishna, besides 'The dancing Ganesha' in Sanskrit and 'Bhaj Govindam' by Shankaracharya. The scant, but intrusive audience relished the famous Kabir bhajan 'Man lago mero yaar fakiri mein'

Sanjay Dwivedi was accompanied by Gyaneshwari and Vaibhav Santore on chorus, Rakesh Satankar on flute, Yashwant Rao on violin, Swapnil Bagul on tabla, Vijay Gaur on bass guitar, Pushpraj Singh on acoustic guitar, Sagar on keyboard and Manoj on drums.

Chief guest PL Sahu, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture, and Jitender Yadav, Director, Cultural affairs, UT, and Prof Saubhagya Vardhan Brihaspati, NZCC director, graced the occasion.

Punjabi Singer Ranjit Bawa will perform on Saturday.
