The much-awaited PGI satellite centre project at Sangrur is likely to be completed by the end of October this year.

PGI Deputy Director Kumar Gaurav Dhawan said the civil work was almost done and the agency awarded the contract had assured to complete the entire work by October-end.

PGI Director Prof Vivek Lal today visited the satellite centre site. He was accompanied by a high-level team comprising Prof GD Puri, Dean (Academics), Kumar Gaurav Dhawan, Prof Vipin Koushal, medical superintendent, Kumar Abhay, financial adviser and members of the computer section and the engineering wing of the premier institute.

Prof Lal took a round of all buildings at the centre, including the OPD Block, the Hospital Block, residential units and hostel. Later, he chaired a meeting with officials concerned and representatives of the executing agency and issued directions to expedite the project.

The PGI Director also instructed the representatives of the executing agency to award tenders for the services at the earliest. He issued directions for timely execution of the project. The executing agency was also instructed for the completion of the milestones as per the stipulated timelines so that the centre could be made operational.

The team also visited the temporary OPD of the centre where they interacted with doctors, paramedics and patients and enquired about the facilities being provided there.

The Union Health Ministry had sanctioned nearly 1,000 posts for the satellite centre.

The PGI satellite centres at Sangrur, Una and Ferozepur will cater to the healthcare needs of 1 lakh patients every year besides nearly 30 lakh people visiting OPDs.
