CHANDIGARH: Two unidentified miscreants stabbed a scooter rider and escaped with his scooter tonight.



Chandigarh: Two unidentified miscreants stabbed a scooter rider and escaped with his scooter tonight. Police sources said they stopped the victim, who was riding a Jupiter scooter, at Mauli Jagran. The duo then stabbed the victim and forcibly took away his scooter. The police were informed about the incident, who visited the spot. An investigation has been initiated into the matter. Patrolling parties were informed about the incident along with the number of the scooter. TNS

Servant held for  obscene video

Mohali: The police have arrested two persons, including a 16-year-old servant, for making an obscene video of his employer’s 19-year-old daughter here. The minor suspect is a native of Bihar, while his friend has been identified as Gurpreet Singh (29), a resident of Sector 71 here. According to the police, the servant made a video of his employer’s daughter while she was changing her clothes. He fitted his mobile phone in the girl’s room to give shape to his nefarious designs. He sent the video clipping to his friend Gurpreet Singh. He again made another video, but later he was caught by the family and handed over to the police. TNS

Bankers stage protest

Chandigarh: On a call by the All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), more than 1,000 bank officers held a demonstration in front of Punjab National Bank, Bank Square, Sector 17, here on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, TS Saggu, state secretary, AIBOC, flayed the government’s move to merger public sector banks (PSBs). He said on the one side, the government was issuing licences to new small banks while on the other, it was merging the PSBs in the name of weak banks. TNS

GM reviews projects

Chandigarh: TP Singh, General Manager, Northern Railway, on Friday inspected the Kalka railway station and reviewed all ongoing development works. The restoration of the UNESCO heritage track, addition of new coaches and other beautification projects were inspected. On the occasion, he also discussed future plans for carrying out development works at the railway station. The General Manager also gave instructions to divisional officers to ensure the use of good quality of material and complete the works in time.  Apart from that, he also inspected the Kalka workshop. Later, he conducted a window trailing inspection of the World Heritage Kalka-Shimla section. TNS

400 boxes of liquor recovered 

Kharar: The CIA staff, Kharar, arrested Tarsem Singh, a resident of Bharibal village in Amritsar, following the recovery of 400 boxes of liquor from him. ASI Rakesh Kumar had laid a naka near Daun Majra village on the Kharar-Kurali road. They noticed a canter coming towards them. On seeing the police, its driver  tried to escape after parking the vehicle in the nearby cattle mandi. During a search, the police recovered 400 boxes of liquor from the vehicle. The liquor was meant for sale in Chandigarh only. OC

Bootlegger arrested in Kharar 

Kharar: The Kurali Sadar police arrested Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Lakhmipur village, with nine boxes of liquor on Thursday. ASI Dalwinder Singh had got information that he used to bring liquor from Chandigarh to sell it in nearby villages at higher rates. The liquor was recovered from his car while he was going towards Kurali. The police have registered a case under the Excise Act. OC 

Car stolen in Dera Bassi 

Dera Bassi: Some unidentified persons stole a car from Dera Bassi on Thursday night. The incident came to light when Tejpal, owner of the car, found his car was missing. The complainant told the police that he had parked his Maruti car outside his house on Thursday night. The police have registered a case and investigation is under way in this regard. OC
