Sec 51 resident loses Rs 87,399 in online fraud

Chandigarh, November 27

A city resident has been allegedly duped of Rs87,399 by a swindler. The amount was withdrawn from his bank account.

Complainant Amba Datt Papnoi, a resident of Sector 51, had ordered a bicycle from an online shopping site. The victim reported that the bicycle was delivered to him at his address. However, it was not assembled, following which the delivery agent asked him to contact the customer care of the shopping site. The victim searched for the customer care number on Google and called on the number on November 20. The person told him that a person would be deputed to assemble the cycle. However, for that, he would have to make a transaction of Rs2. The fraudster then sent a link to him and asked him to fill some information after which Rs87,399 was debited from the victim’s bank account. The victim has submitted a complaint to the Chandigarh Police. —TNS
