Shubham, Sukdeep claim double scull gold

Chandigarh, May 12

Shubham Pahwa and Sukhdeep clocked 2:25.60s to claim the gold medal in the men's pair category of the Chandigarh State Rowing Championship concluded at the Lake Sports Complex, on Sunday.  

The team of Anurag and Ranjeet Singh claimed the silver medal with a timing of 3:1.57s, while Akashdeep Singh and Sanjay claimed the bronze medal in 3:17.01s. In the men's singles scull category, Rishikanta Singh clocked 2.43:60s to claim the gold medal. He was closely followed by Ajay (2:56.22s) and Raman (3:33.78s) at second and third position. In the women's pair scull event, Manisha and Renu claimed the top honour in 3:14.45s. Radha and Pooja claimed the second spot after clocking 3:18.48s, while Arju and Varnika Sihag finished third in 7:23.69s. In the women's single scull event, Pooja Kumari claimed the gold medal in the 3:16.55s. 

Meanwhile, in the men's double scull event, Lovejot Singh and Harpreet Singh claimed the first position with a time of 2:38.75s. Prabal Dalal and Savinay Singh clocked 2:31.94s top finish at the second position. Gurpreet Singh and Ravinder Singh finished third with a timing of 3:07.81s. In the men's coxless-four boat race, the team of Sahil, Gaurav, Loveprewt and Vikas claimed the title by clocking 2:14.28s. Rajat Kumar, Gurucharan, Sudarshan and Varun finished second in 2:15.24s.  

The Chandigarh Rowing Association also organised trials to select a local team for the 22nd sub junior and 4th Interstate Challenger Rowing Championship. —TNS
