Six P’kula residents duped of Rs 6.25 lakh

PANCHKULA: A woman allegedly duped six persons, all residents of Panchkula, on the pretext of offering them jobs.

A woman allegedly duped six persons, all residents of Panchkula, on the pretext of offering them jobs. The suspect has been identified as Shivani Jain of Sector 69, Mohali.

Complainant Hukumraj, a native of Nepal, alleged that Shivani cheated him and five others of Rs 6.25 lakh by promising them jobs in the District Tehsil Office. She took the money from them, but failed to provide them jobs.

According to the police, Hukumraj’s sister used to work as a maid at Shivani’s house in Mohali. Shivani used to claim that she knew various senior government officers. The complainant alleged that Shivani also threatened to kill them when they demanded their money back.

A case under Sections 406, 420 and 506 of the IPC has been registered. — TNS
