Smart City board gives nod to development works

The Board of Directors of Chandigarh Smart City Ltd has given its nod to various development projects in the city.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of UT Adviser Manoj Kumar Parida today. MC Commissioner KK Yadav, who is also the chief executive officer of Chandigarh Smart City Ltd, said Chandigarh Smart City Ltd would set up material recovery facilities and transfer stations at three locations near a public health store, Industrial Area, Phase I, Chandigarh, inside the sewerage treatment plant (STP) at 3 BRD and adjoining the solid waste treatment plant in Sector 25 (West), Chandigarh, at a cost of Rs 32.27 crore.

These stations will help collect and compact the biodegradable or wet waste and segregate dry waste. The Chandigarh MC will involve the existing waste pickers in the functioning of material recovery facilities.

The board approved the revised cost of DPR for argumentation and upgrade of STP’s to meet the requirement of latest norms for discharge of treated effluent. The cost of upgrade of the STP, which was earlier approved at Rs 810 crore, has been enhanced to Rs 854 crore.

The board also approved digital advertisement for public bike sharing project in Chandigarh. The project aims to become the country’s largest public bike sharing project with 5,000 bikes located at 617 locations across the city. The CSCL Board also approved the provision of e-bikes as part of the project. The project will be implemented on the public-private partnership mode.

The board further approved the construction of a state-of-the-art building proposed at Citizen Facilitation Centre, Sector 17, Chandigarh, to house the Integrated Command and Control Central (ICCC), Police Command, and control room and SCADA for municipal services. The ICCC will also integrate all command control centers of utilities. It will provide a single point of contact for citizen services, supervision and administration of utility management and governance framework for Chandigarh. The buildings, including interiors, will have all latest security features such as CCTVs and building management services and will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 46 crore. The DPR will be placed in the technical committee meeting for its vetting before floating the tenders.
