Chandigarh, July 11

The UT Education Department is all set to introduce the attendance tracking system in all government schools shortly. With the introduction of the system, the department will not only be able to keep a track of  the attendance of students but also their activities during the school hours.

Parents will get SMSes on their mobile phones minutes after any wrong activity of their ward comes to the knowledge of teachers. “Right from the morning session to activities in lunch break and after school hours, every activity of students will be monitored by the school authorities,” sources in the department disclosed.

Activities of student will be uploaded on the Internal tracking system controlled by the department and then subsequently the SMSes will be sent their parents.

The system will also be an attempt to curb dummy admissions. Initially, six schools will be covered under the project. After favorable results, more schools will be brought under the system.

Kamlesh Kumar Bhadoo, Director, Public Instructions (Schools), said the schools covered under the system would upload activities of students on a web-portal based on the school management information system of the department. The system will automatically send messages to parents.

The educationists, however, have reacted sharply to the proposal. Some termed it a good step while others called it a futile exercise as the department will not be able to control such a large number of students.

“The department has already set up biometric machines to record attendance of teachers in different government schools but a proposal to record the attendance of students similarly is still pending,”   a senior official said.
