Panjab University (PU) today released standard operating procedures (SOPs) for research scholars after the varsity allowed them to attend laboratory activities from October 15.

The number of students allowed in a lab/room at a time will depend on the area of lab/room (at least 4 sq m area for single person) to be decided by the Chairperson. All labs amd central instrumental facilities will be allowed to open from 9 am to 5 pm on working days only.

Dos & Don’ts 

  • Labs should be properly ventilated by keeping the doors open & AC be avoided
  • Sharing of items be avoided
  • All equipment to be disinfected before and after use
  • No conversations or chatting in close proximity

Only registered PhD students from the science discipline who have completed three years and need to do experimental/lab work will be allowed. The research scholars from humanities who are close to completing their PhD thesis will be allowed with the consent of supervisor in writing.

The research scholars will have to provide an undertaking or consent of self and parents that they have no objection to attending and working in the research labs under the prevailing conditions of Covid-19. As per the advisory, the scholars have been asked to minimise time in the lab and do data entry, analysis and other dry tasks at home.
