Special plan chalked out to tackle street crime in Punjab, says DGP
Various strategies have been chalked out to tackle street crime in the state, Special Director General of Police (DGP, Law & Order) Arpit Shukla said today.
Briefing the media along with Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harcharan Singh Bhullar and Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepak Pareek, he said special focus was being given to controlling and preventing street crime in the Mohali district.
The district has been rocked by a series of theft, snatching and stabbing incidents and residents have expressed concerns about deteriorating law and order situation during police-public meetings.
Apprising the media about the steps taken by the Mohali police, the Special DGP said, “The number of PCRs has increased from 13 to 30 PCR. Strategic deployment of sixInter-District night checkposts has been laid down across the district. Night Domination is supervised by 3 GOs, along with 10 Inspector ranked officers.”
As many as 5,711 vehicles have been issued traffic challans during night checking, while 51 vehicles impounded from December 2024 till date. Similarly, a total of 1,61,742 traffic xhallans had been issued in the year 2024, including 69,260 e-challans and 2,189 drink-and-drive challans.

Besides, 70 radio frequency-based wireless CCTV cameras have been installed in the jurisdiction of Zirakpur. Similarly, major markets like 3B2 and Jubilee Walk have been covered with 35 cameras.
