Stopped from ‘selling drugs’, youths brandish swords
Swords were brandished and stones hurled at residents of Guru Nanak Colony, Jagatpura, after they objected to a group of youths allegedly selling drugs in the area this afternoon.
A video of the incident, which left two youths injured, purportedly showed children, women and the elderly caught in the clash. A youth brandished a sword amid stone pelting from both sides.
On being informed, a police party reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Residents alleged that the miscreants attacked protesting residents with swords and farm equipment, injuring Ramesh.
The victim, who sustained multiple injuries, including one on the head, was rushed to the Phase-6 Civil Hospital. His mother and sisters later reached the Phase-11 police station in the evening to file a complaint.
Women alleged that narcotics were being peddled by some locals in the area, which has a sizable population of migrants, for the past some time.
Phase-11 Station House Officer (SHO) Gagandeep Singh said, “Two groups clashed in Jagatpura and two youths have been injured. The police are investigating the matter.”
